Craig Sutherland

Name: Craig Sutherland
Age: 57

Favourite pre-race food: Porridge and honey with a mug of green tea

Favourite post-race food: Bangers and mash with peas and gravy.

Best Race: Blackpool Half Marathon, 1st Sept 2013. A breezy day and I had no expectation of a PB but I'd felt strong all through the race. On the slight climb up to the finish I saw the clock display and realized I was in with a chance. I found some reserves from somewhere and went like the clappers (at least it felt fast to me). Result - I improved my PB by just over half a minute.

Most memorable race: Terry Nortley 10 Mile not my fastest time but a I had a great tussle with a Belle Vue Racers runner, a Chorlton runner and Emma Ball. We were passing and re-passing each other for quite a few miles, each of us giving it our max. Suffice to say I came off worst of the lot.

Worst Race: 13/01/2013 Boggart Hole Clough X-Country. Raining, cold, saturated underfoot and I ran a shocker! I was towards the back and people were pulling up all around me. One guy just to my side just stopped and said "I can't go on", and that was on the downhill section!

Something You Don't Know about me: I was an official observer in the first democratic South African Elections (post-apartheid)

Claim to Fame: I was once in the same hotel foyer as Haile Gabrselassie for 20 minutes and didn't talk to him, no autograph, no photo, no nothing!
